Re-appropriation of power and “Self advocacy” Each of the interventions done by the MHRAR-GIM, is made to give back the power a person has the right to possess. We use the notion of “Self advocacy” of which the principle objectives are:
-to be informed of their rights;
-to develop the abilities to negotiate;
-to be their own lawyer.
So, the principle lies in what comes next: the defense of rights is more useful when it is done by the concerned person. Our interventions with these people will then be in this sense; we are the vehicle of their will and we have a favorable prejudice towards them; so it is in our best interest to give these persons the competences they need to defend themselves. |
